Obey God’s Leading
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.” (Proverbs 3:5-7)
Come and Rest in My Presence How do you discern God’s leading?
Psalm 89:15 “Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your Presence, Lord.”
Jeremiah 6:16 “Thus says the Lord: ‘Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls.’”
Isaiah 30:21 assures us, “Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.’”
Brother Lawrence is quoted as saying, “We should establish ourselves in a sense of God’s Presence, by continually conversing with Him. It is a shameful thing to quit His conversation, to think of trifles and fooleries.”
Spend some time in worship and prayer – in God’s Presence, getting God’s angle on this.
Receive My PowerReading: Acts 16:1-10 ESV Audio Bible Follow Paul’s First Journey Map 18
Extract: Acts 16:1,4-10 TPT
“Paul and Silas came to the city of Derbe and then went on to Lystra, the hometown of a believer named Timothy…They went out together as missionaries, traveling to different cities where they preached and informed the churches of the decrees of the apostolic council of Jerusalem for the non-Jewish converts to observe. All the churches were growing daily and were encouraged and strengthened in their faith.
The Holy Spirit had forbidden Paul and his partners to preach the word in the southwestern provinces of Turkey, so they ministered throughout the region of central and west-central Turkey. When they got, as far west as the borders of Mysia, they repeatedly attempted to go north into the province of Bithynia but again the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to enter. So instead they went right on through the province of Mysia to the seaport of Troas. While staying there Paul experienced a supernatural, ecstatic vision during the night. A man from Macedonia appeared before him, pleading with him, ‘You must come across the sea to Macedonia and help us!’ After Paul had this vision, we immediately prepared to cross over to Macedonia, convinced that God himself was calling us to go and preach the wonderful news of the gospel to them."
Listen to what the Word Says, Obey and Share.
S: Do you hear what God saying clearly enough to know when He forbids a specific thing?
O: Is there something God has asked you to do or not do that you need to obey? God will confront us.
“You insist on lighting fires with your own box of matches – your own good works. Give Me the matches so that every fire that is lit in the future is My fire, with My love at its centre.” (Noel & Barabara Bell, Only One Thing. p17)
S: Declare your gratitude that the Spirit of Jesus in us is light in darkness.
Be My Spirit-led Witnesses To co-labour with God we need to recognise and hear His voice clearly and obey what He says.
John 16:7-8,13-15 “ … I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.”
We are to discern the Spirit’s leading so we know when and how to “preach the wonderful news of the gospel to them.” (Acts 16:10) But we are not held responsible for whether people receive Christ. As John 16:8,13 (above) says, it is the work of the Spirit to convict unbelievers “concerning sin, righteousness and judgement.” John 6:44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him.”
Matthew 18:14 “Your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.”
