Equipped to Speak
DAY 2: THU 02 MAR, 17
“For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel…the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:17-18)
Come and Rest in My Presence
All our relationships rely on communication - eye contact and conversation. In today’s reading Peter quotes David, who enjoyed intimate dialogue with God:
“‘No wonder my heart is glad and my glory celebrates! My mouth is filled with his praises… For you have revealed to me the pathways of life and seeing your face fills me with euphoria!’”
Peter then shares his own personal account of the joy of intimacy with Jesus!
“Can’t you see it? God has rescued Jesus, and we all have seen him! Then God exalted him to his right hand upon the throne of highest honour. And the Father gave him the authority to send the promised Holy Spirit which is being poured out upon us today, This is what you’re seeing and hearing!” (Acts 2:26,28,32-33)
Brother Lawrence (c.1614–1691) knew the joy of a life conversing with God,
“There is not in the world a kind of life more sweet and delightful, than that of a continual conversation with God; those only can comprehend it who practice and experience it. In order to form a habit of conversing with God continually, and referring all we do to Him, we must at first apply to Him with some diligence: but after a little care we should find His love inwardly excite us to it without any difficulty.”
Spend some time expressing your heart’s longing to the One who loves you.
Receive My PowerReading: Acts 2:1-33 ESV Audio Bible
Extract: Acts 2:1-4,14-21 TPT
“On the day Pentecost was being fulfilled (filled completely) all the disciples were gathered in one place. Suddenly they heard the sound of a violent blast of wind rushing into the house from out of the heavenly realm. A pillar of fire (like the one that led Israel) appeared before them. It separated into tongues of fire that engulfed each one of them. They were all filled and equipped with the Holy Spirit to speak in languages they had never learned!”
“Peter stood up…and shouted to the crowd…‘This is the fulfilment of what was prophesied through the prophet Joel…“This is what I will do in the last days - I will pour out my Spirit on everybody and cause your sons and daughters to prophesy, and your young men will see visions, and your old me will experience dreams from God. The Holy Spirit will come upon all servants, men and women alike and they will prophesy...Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.””
Listen to what the Word Says, Obey and Share
S: What is God saying to you through His Word? Were the “tongues of fire” God’s glory on everyone?
O: Have you received the Holy Spirit’s gifts - prophesy, tongues and word of knowledge? (1 Corinthians 12:1-11) “Earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.” (1 Corinthians 14:1)
S: Jesus has given you His authority and power to share the gospel with those you meet!
Pray “that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel…” (Ephesians 6:19)
Be My Spirit-led Witnesses ‘Keys to Spirit Led Outreach. The Right Words for the Right People at the Right Time’ by Stuart Gramenz (p53-61) www.spiritled.com.au
Stuart says prayer is effective if (1) we pray in God’s will and (2) have faith to believe we’ve received.
Mark 11:24 “…I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Jesus commands us to ask Him to send us. He said the harvest is ripe now. (John 4:35)
This is the prayer Jesus asked us to pray: Luke 10:2-3 “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest. Go your way; behold, I am sending you…”
Stuart suggests two things:
John 5:24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life.”

Your Prayer List.
Seek the Holy Spirit’s leading and list 5 or so people you will pray for each day throughout these 40 Days. Write down measureable outcomes that you can pray for each one. For example that they will hear the gospel; receive Jesus as their Saviour; be healed; and come to Church. Pray as God leads you each day. Review this in 40 Days!
Be My House of Prayer Jesus, Lord of the Harvest, I acknowledge that there are people ready to receive Jesus all around us. I pray You will send labourers; and that we will believe and receive Your call and fulfil Your will. Holy Spirit, lead us each to see the right ones right in front of us! Give us the right words at the right time for the right people.
Pray for your prayer list and family and friends to receive Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
